Borrowing clothes from the Amsterdam fashion library SS17 – Part III: Vintage Vintage

Now I’ve finally settled into my steady borrowing clothes routine I couldn’t be happier. In the previous “Borrowing clothes from the Amsterdam fashion library – SS17-II” post I’ve mentioned how eager I was to borrow clothes every week at the beginning of joining the Library. Then, slowly, it became every 3 weeks, then every 2 weeks until I came to my happy average of visiting LENA the Fashion Library once per month. And that’s ok. That works… for me. Someone else may say: “But why not maximize your abonnement value and shop every week?”. I found that when I was borrowing clothes more often I just wasn’t “done playing with them” in a week.

So, without further ado here is what I took home in a month of May:

Borrowed: Black pencil skirt – Vintage – (SECONDHAND VALUE € 69,90)

Worn: 5 times

I loved this skirt so much! It was very easy to combine it with the rest of my wardrobe and I felt very feminine and sort of “Mad Man”-ish in it. I wore it quite a bit all through May and it felt very “me”.

First time I’ve worn this skirt was to a “Fashion For Good” Amsterdam Center opening. I’ve paired it with a thin grey sweater and classic black pumps.

One thing I have to say about this pencil skirt and most pencil skirts, in general, is that they are not the most comfortable items in our closet. If you are used to wearing trousers it’s likely that you will get annoyed at having to take smaller steps in a pencil skirt. Me? When I notice that wearing skirts becomes uncomfortable I try to wear them more often. I see this as a “warning” that I’m getting too comfortable and too lazy with my style. What about you? Do you wear pencil skirts often?

Borrowed: Brown dress – Vintage– (secondhand value € 65,00)

Worn: 2 times

I’ve ended up wearing this dress only two times. It fitted like a glove, was very cute and easy to pair with other clothes, but somehow when I was wearing it I didn’t feel like “myself”.. whatever that means. I guess sometimes it’s not enough for something to fit or to look cute, some deeper connection should be there. At least for me.

Did you ever have these moments when clothes look cute on, but the outfit doesn’t feel “you”? Do you still wear it?

April: Total value: € 134,90 - € 34,95 = € 99,95. Hours spent “shopping” (choosing the clothes): 0h 35min

I think being comfortable in your clothes is more than just if they fit. That dress is cute though! I don’t wear skirts often, but I want to try them more – I tend to wear dresses over skirts. I love this library!

The idea of borrowing clothes is so cool! I wish that was happening where I live, I’d totally take advantage of it to try out new styles 🙂

This is the first time I’ve heard about this. What a cool idea! Love that you are finding items that are very “you”!
