Mercedes-Benz Amsterdam Fashion Week 2017- Part 2

Mercedes-Benz Amsterdam fashion week 2017: after Saturday came Sunday. I could barely contain my excitement as I got to see 3 shows that day. 3!

Ajbilou | Rosdorff

Yasmina Ajbilou and Lynn-Kate Rosdorff

For Yasmina Ajbilou and Lynn-Kate Rosdorff, the designers behind Ajbilou | Rosdorff this was the second time showing at the Amsterdam Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. The duo wholeheartedly embraced the zero-waste concept, creating the Seven Look collection out of leftover fabric donated by Nooteboom fabrics, a certified sustainable fabric supplier, and Indigo People, a company using traditional techniques to make sustainable fabrics with natural indigo dyes. Another way the design duo ensure their collection is zero-waste is during production. For example, this pattern jumpsuit will only be produced upon request.

The “Overview-Previous-NEXT” collection is inspired by our relationship with social media and how we often create an alternate ego online, different from the reality. Ajbilou | Rosdorff play with gender and sexuality ,further highlighting this by using chunky boots for male and female models. I loved how even though the looks are so gender-neutral they still have a sort of sexual tension the unisex fashion is often missing. The pastel tones are supported by greens and blacks, giving the collection a fresh and sophisticated feel.

The “human-wear” was complemented with headgear by Ruud Antonie. Sometimes covering the whole face the designers were not only playing with gender but with the “masks” of social media. This concepts were further supported by unisex styling: slicked back wet hair and pink make up on the arms and eyes.

Do you have some left over fabric? Ajbilou | Rosdorff will take it off your hands & soon you could see your leftovers used to create a true work of art.

M.E.N.

Studio M.E.N.: Maartje Janse, Elysanne Schuurman and Nikki Duijst

No, this is not a men collection. M.E.N. is a design trio: Maartje Janse, Elysanne Schuurman and Nikki Duijst. The show started with an imitation grass carpet being rolled out and a team of rugby players tackling each other, setting an athletic note for the collection to come. The Mercedes-Benz Amsterdam Fashion Week 2017  collection itself was truly mind blowing: fresh, sporty, sexy and gender neutral. I loved how classically athletic elements and fabrics were deconstructed in an unexpected and elegant way and peppered with the rugby paraphernalia. The makeup was a minimal wet sweaty skin look.

And then… that TOP! The top from the “Next Generation” exhibition appeared on the catwalk. Constructed from different materials, beautifully dyed blue by bacteria (and how amazing is it to achieve such an even color tone on a wide range of fabrics?) this top looked amazing on the catwalk! I just love it when fashion and science get together and produce such beautiful results!

Booom!… this… my favorite look. Absolutely amazeballs! I would wear it this second… If I could… M.E.N…. wink, wink?

Actually, jokes aside, some of the designers showing at the Mercedes-Benz Amsterdam Fashion Week 2017 have presented their collection for sale in the Amsterdams X-Bank. It’s always amazing how the pieces of art on the catwalk translate into everyday life. M.E.N. collection has definitely made a smooth transition! If you are in Amsterdam hurry and go to the X-Bank to have a look. Just don’t buy the yellow look…. It’s mine

What did I wear?

Did you ever have a cinderella moment? I did, in this dress. This beautiful sustainable gown by byBrown is made out of cork (what?!) and raw silk with a cork print. So so pretty!

And the third and the last part of this Fashion Week, my friends, is coming tomorrow.
